Motorized Skateboard Usage
The Board has received numerous complaints regarding the use of motorized skateboards and gocarts on A-Lake streets, sidewalks and Association property. The Association Rules and Regulations prohibit them on Association property and Colorado State Law prohibits them on public roads and public sidewalks.
A copy of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's office follows below. Sheriff Robinson maintains the County will enforce violations:
NOTICE TO MOTORIZED SKATEBOARD OPERATORS / PARENTS
Colorado State Law prohibits motorized skateboards from being operated on the public roads or public sidewalks.
Unless the skateboard has a seat, a motorized skateboard is defined as a "skate or similar device" If the skateboard has a seat it is defined as a motorized bicycle.
Motorized bicycles may be operated on the street, but it must be registered and the operator must have a valid driver's license.
The only devices that may be operated on a sidewalk are bicycles or other human powered vehicles [42-4-071 (3) CRS]. No person may use the highways (streets) to travel on skis, toboggans, coasting sleds, skates and similar devices [42-4-109 (9) CRS].
Parents or guardians may not authorize or knowingly permit a child to violate these statutes.
Violation is a Class A or B Traffic Infraction punishable by fine of $15 to $100
A motorized skateboard may be operated on a private driveway or other private property with the owner's expressed permission (written permission preferred).
